Our Grant-Making Policy

Grant Priorities

Tympanum Trust prioritizes grants that align with our charitable objects and demonstrate clear potential for advancing the Christian faith:

  • Projects in Derby and the East Midlands region (priority given to local initiatives)
  • Initiatives with measurable spiritual or community impact
  • Programs that strengthen local church capacity
  • Work that reaches underserved or vulnerable populations

  • Projects demonstrating financial sustainability

Assessment Criteria

Applications are assessed by our Board of Trustees based on the following criteria:

  • Clarity of purpose and project objectives
  • Realistic budget and financial planning
  • Organizational governance and accountability
  • Track record and capacity to deliver
  • Evidence of community need or opportunity

Grant Amounts

Grant amounts vary based on project scope, demonstrated need, and available trust resources:

  • Small grants: Up to £1,000 for minor equipment or program costs
  • Medium grants: £1,000 - £5,000 for significant projects
  • Large grants: Over £5,000 for major capital projects (exceptional cases)
  • Individual assistance: Typically up to £500 per person
  • Multi-year funding considered for strategic initiatives

What We Don't Fund

To ensure responsible stewardship, we do not typically provide grants for:

  • Activities inconsistent with Christian faith and practice
  • General operational costs or staff salaries (ongoing expenses)
  • Debt repayment or retrospective funding
  • Political campaigning or lobbying activities
  • Secular projects without clear Christian mission
  • For-profit ventures or commercial enterprises

Submit Application

Complete our grant application form with detailed information about your organization, project objectives, budget, and expected outcomes. Include supporting documents such as accounts, governing documents, and references.

Trustee Review

Your application will be carefully reviewed by our Board of Trustees, who meet regularly to assess grant requests. We may contact you for additional information or clarification during this stage.

Decision Notification

All applicants receive written notification of the trustees' decision. Successful applicants will receive detailed grant agreement terms, reporting requirements, and payment arrangements.

Monitoring & Reporting

Grant recipients are required to provide progress reports and demonstrate how funds were used in accordance with the agreed objectives. We remain available to support you throughout your project.
